Creating Custom Cabinets for a Large Trucking Company

A large trucking company came to us with a need for custom enclosed cabinets behind the truck cab for storage. Without these storage cabinets, supplies like chains were exposed to the weather and would also get stolen from time to time. They wanted us to design something secure that could be locked.

Designing and Prototyping

Without drawings from the customer, we started completely from scratch to design these custom cabinets. We went back and forth with the customer to figure out exactly what they wanted, and we designed a prototype before creating all four cabinets. The only request we received from the client is that they wanted the cabinets to look shiny to fit in with the design of the rest of the trucks.

Fabricating the Custom Cabinets

Once we got final approval on the first unit we created, we continued with the rest of the four units, including the cabinets, bases, and fenders. The processes that followed included AutoCAD, laser, and then fabrication (bending, welding, and assembly) to complete the four units.

In order to meet our client’s one specific request of making the cabinets shiny, we chose aluminum and stainless steel. Stainless steel not only gives the client the shiny look they wanted, but these high quality materials will hold up to the rough and tough trucking industry.

The process from start to finish took roughly three months, and we were able to keep the project on track by quickly implementing changes from the client.
